In this presentation, Nadia explores ways that teachers can integrate the Working Mathematically processes — reasoning, problem-solving, understanding and fluency, and communication — into daily lessons to unlock proficiency and deepen student engagement. Nadia emphasises the interconnected nature of content and processes, highlighting practical strategies for choosing rich tasks and fostering mathematical thinking.

AboutĀ Nadia Walker

Nadia Walker is the Mathematics Advisor K-6 for the NSW Department of Education. Nadia has been involved in curriculum change and reform projects in two states, working for both the Victorian Department of Education & Training and the NSW Department of Education. Nadia has been a classroom teacher, curriculum leader, Assistant Principal, pre-service tutor at Melbourne University, research assistant at Monash University and a mathematics consultant. Throughout 2016 – 2018, Nadia was involved with the reSolve: Mathematics by Inquiry as the Victorian Outreach Officer and resource developer. Nadia recently began her PhD looking into how NSW primary teachers interpret the Working mathematically outcome, and how their orientations towards the Working Mathematically processes shape their decisions in designing and implementing opportunities for working mathematically into their lessons.
