In this session Katherin explores the key features of being a flexible practitioner through the lens of the teaching standards. The session will discuss the importance of building your repertoire of strategies, choosing wisely, continuing to learn, and developing your mathematical content knowledge. You will walk away from this session with advice on what flexibility might involve in relation to knowing your students and how they learn, and knowing the content and how to teach it.

About Dr Katherin Cartwright 

Katherin Cartwright is a passionate mathematics educator and is currently a sessional lecturer at The University of Sydney teaching pre-service teachers. Katherin’s PhD research was on teachers' understanding of mathematical fluency and the characteristics of fluency students display. She is currently part of a three-year research project focusing on Embodied Learning in Early Mathematics and Science (ELEMS). Katherin is an active member of MANSW (NSW’s mathematics association) and is currently president of MANSW. Katherin loves teaching and enjoys talking about mathematics, curriculum, and pedagogy. Katherin’s teaching background is with primary-aged students. She has a particular interest in researching mathematics approaches for primary teachers that will have a future impact on classroom practice.
