Dr Ange Rogers and Dr Bern Long presents a 10 part course that links home and school for parents.

It explains in simple terms the Number concepts that are critical for your child to learn in their first year of school. The course includes all the resources you will need to play the simple games Ange models for you.

This course is perfect for parents who want to help their child in maths but don't know where to start!

What'll your child will learn

Ten weeks of content is included, however, there is no rush! Let your child guide the pace! It is ok, actually it is recommended, that you repeat the games over and over to develop your child's fluency and confidence.

  • Week 1 - Counting: linking the number naming sequence (1,2,3,4,5…) with a count of objects.
  • Week 2 - Subitising: we introduce the most basic form of subitising- recognising the patterns on a dice without counting.
  • Week 3 - Five wise: we use five frames to support children to develop a deep knowledge of the numbers up to and including 5.
  • Week 4 - More/Less: We will be asking children to investigate “one more” and “one less” than various collections of counters.
  • Week 5 - Ordering Numbers: take turns picking up the number cards in the correct order and place numbers next to each other, creating a number line.
  • Week 6 - Part/Part/Whole: We begin with the whole, for example a collection of 4 and split this into two smaller parts, such as 3 and 1.
  • Week 7 - Part/Part/Whole & Subitising: Encourage children to become familiar with the ways their fingers can be used to represent various quantities.
  • Week 8 - Comparing Numbers: Look at two quantities and deciding which is “more” or “less” or if they are the “same”.
  • Week 9 - Number Lines: We will be selecting random number cards and then estimating where the number fits on a number line.
  • Week 10 - Bringing it all together: The final week is about bringing together all the learning we have done throughout the course.
